WIC Program


To become eligible for Indiana WIC benefits, an applicant must be an Indiana resident. The Indiana WIC Program currently works with approximately 150 non-profit clinics in all 92 counties to provide Indiana WIC services to applicants. An applicant must be "categorically" eligible.

The Indiana WIC Program serves:
  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding women for one year
  • Non-Breastfeeding Postpartum Women (up to 6 months)
  • Infants (up to their 1st birthday)
  • Children (up to their 5th birthday)
  • Breastfeeding support and peer counselors, breast pumps
Additional services include:
  • Nutritional counseling, fitness activity, anemia screening and referral if indicated
  • Lead screening available in some counties, not BC (why?) Referrals to salt creek family practice, no ob referrals available in Brown County
  • Anemia screening for mothers and children: mothers, prenatal and postpartum (after 28 days) Infants, between 9 and 11 months
  • Tracking of infant/child growth and development through growth curves - assess for risk of overweight/underweight
  • Referrals to foodstamps, foodbanks, healthy nutrition
  • WIC vouchers, checks – Note that there are legal restrictions regarding types of foods and amounts of assistance.
